(31/08/2010) — A new episcopal vicar is on the job for the Archdiocese of Montreal's 40 cultural community parishes. Fr. Pierangelo Paternieri, c.s., begins his new responsibilities officially on Sept. 1.

(03/09/2010) — The public, province-wide consultation on the legalization of euthanasia will begin in Montreal Sept. 7. It will continue in the city until Sept. 9. An open-mic period has been scheduled for each day of the hearings. The public is invited to attend the hearings and participate in the open-mic periods, which are excellent opportunities to express one’s personal opinions on the subject.

Interested in ministering to adults? Then the diocesan Certificate in Adult Faith Formation is for you. Participants will acquire tools to facilitate adult learning in the parish setting, learn skills for collaborative ministry and become aware of the needs of the adult faith learner. Courses start Sept. 16.

(27/08/2010) — Today marks what would have been the 100th birthday of Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta. A new cathedral is currently being built in Pristina, Kosovo, will be named for her. The Catholic Radio and Television Network produced a short documentary on the construction of the cathedral, which serves as a symbol of unity and reconciliation in the majority Muslim country.

(27/08/2010) — The cause for the beatification of Montrealer Rosalie Cadron-Jetté is currently being studied by the Vatican but this woman, who founded the Sisters of Mercy here in 1848, remains relatively unknown. Two special events, however, will offer the opportunity to learn more about Rosalie, who, at the age of 54, dedicated her life to helping single mothers.

(27/08/2010) — LAUDEM, the Canadian association of liturgical musicians, invites the public to a daylong study session on the liturgy. It will be held Oct. 11 at the new Trappist monastery in Saint-Jean-de-Matha, named Val Notre-Dame. The day's theme is: Where is the liturgy going? From where does it come? A look at the Liturgical Movement since 1909. The main speaker will be Swiss theologian Fr. Jean-Claude Crivelli. This French-language event will also mark LAUDEM's 20th anniversary. (27/08/2010) — What is the relationship of the Catholic Church with social communications, secular media and social networking trends? What challenges do Catholic media face? These questions and others will be addressed at the Rendez-vous Communications et Société, Oct. 21. This French-language event features guest speakers, workshops and discussions aimed at French-language Catholic media, as well as other media offering values-based content. Those working in print, radio, television and web media are invited to participate.

The most important ecumenical meeting on the continent will take place in Montreal, Sept. 24-26. The conference of the North American Academy of Ecumenists will explore ways of witnessing to Christ while acknowledging the religious plurality in a secular society. International scholars, including Hegumen Philip Riabykh of Moscow, a key participant on the International Catholic-Orthodox Dialogue, will lead the exchange. The general public is invited to attend.

Montreal's renowned sanctuary to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, commonly called the Chapelle de la Réparation in Pointe-aux-Trembles, marks its 100th anniversary this year. In June, Auxiliary Bishop André Gazaille celebrated the centenary mass. This fall, the chapel will launch a historical documentary on DVD, titled 100 ans de fidélité au Sacré-Coeur, Sept. 15.
